Pier 6

Repurpose a traditional fisherfolk's boathouse in Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter

Year: 2024
Location: Aberdeen Typhoon Shelter, Hong Kong
Client: Seayou Explorer Travel
Size: 200 sqm
Status: Completed
Pier 6, once a seafood houseboat on Aberdeen Promenade, is now owned by Seayou Explorer, a travel agency founded by a Hong Kong fisherman's descendant. They aim to convert it into a tourist center for Aberdeen Fisherman's Wharf, celebrating the city's humble fishing village origins. In fact, Aberdeen, pronounced as 'Hong Kong Zai' in Cantonese, was said to be where the name of 'Hong Kong' was born. The Dordor Ferry, previously used for dolphin watching in Tai O Fishing Village, faced retirement due to the scarcity of Chinese White Dolphins. It now docks at the end of Pier 6 for leisure fishing and has undergone a light refurbishment. Despite the client's limited resources, heavy graphics and vibrant colors were used to bring a lively vibe to the renovation.
